MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Wildcat and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer rookie quarterback Josh Freeman will earn his first career NFL start on November 8 when the Bucs play host to the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay head coach Raheem Morris announced Wednesday.

Freeman, who was the third quarterback drafted in April following Matthew Stafford going first overall to Detroit and Mark Sanchez fifth to the New York Jets, was the fourth-highest draft pick in K-State history after being taken 17th overall.

So far in his rookie season, Freeman has played in just one game for Tampa Bay and completed 2-of-4 passes for 15 yards.

In three seasons at Kansas State, Freeman became the school's most prolific passer as the Grandview, Mo., native set new school career marks for pass completions (680), attempts (1,151), yards (8,078), touchdowns (44) and total offense (8,421).

In 2008, Freeman threw for 2,945 yards on 224-of-382 passing with 20 touchdowns. Freeman also ran for 404 yards and 14 scores in 2008. The 14 rushing touchdowns were the fourth-most in a single season by a Wildcat quarterback.

Freeman, as a sophomore in 2007, set new single-season school records for pass attempts, completions and yards after throwing for 3,353 yards and 18 touchdowns on 316-of-499 aim.

As a newcomer in 2006, Freeman was the lone true freshman in the country to lead his team to bowl game and threw for a K-State freshman record 1,780 yards.
