MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Wildcat great Terence Newman has been named to the Sporting News All-Decade College Football Team, the publication announced Thursday.

Newman, who was also selected to CBS Sports' All-Decade College Football Team this summer, was one of just two cornerbacks on the squad, joining Florida's Lito Sheppard, and one of eight Big 12 athletes on the list.

Newman, who was inducted into the K-State Football Ring of Honor in 2008, lettered from 1999-2002 and played in every K-State game over his four-year career.

The Salina native was a Consensus All-American, Thorpe Award winner and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2002 and was also a two-time All-Big 12 selection. As a senior, Newman had 54 tackles, five interceptions, 19 passes defended and averaged 29.8 yards a punt return with two scores. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown in 2002.

Newman was drafted with the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys and remains as the second-highest draft pick in school history.
