Football Opens Camp; Fan Appreciation Day

MANHATTAN, Kan. - With the K-State Family Reunion just a few weeks away, the Kansas State football program begins preparations Thursday for its 114th season of intercollegiate football and 18th overall under head coach Bill Snyder.

K-State will be led in 2009 by captains Carson Coffman, Alex Hrebec, Jeron Mastrud and Nick Stringer. Mastrud, a senior, was recently named a candidate for the John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation's top tight end, while Hrebec earned 2008 Sporting News All-Freshman honors at linebacker. Stringer garnered All-Big 12 honors in 2008 and has started 24 career games along the offensive line.

Also leading the Wildcats will be wide receiver Brandon Banks, who was the 2008 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, and sophomore defensive end Brandon Harold, a First Team Freshman All-America selection in 2008.

After holding media day activities on Friday, Snyder and the Wildcats will host Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday, August 22, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Fans can access the stadium for practice beginning at 5 p.m. and following the workout, will be addressed by Coach Snyder and player captains. Fans will then be able to participate in an autograph session with all players and coaches on the field.

K-State opens the 2009 season on September 5 with the K-State Family Reunion against UMass in Snyder's return to the sidelines following a three-year retirement. Kickoff is set for 6:10 p.m.

Both season and single-game tickets for the 2009 football season remain available to the general public, including individual reserved tickets for as low as $20 for the UMass game. The most convenient way to order is online at www.k-statesports.com.
