HOUSTON, Texas – Kansas State junior pitcher A.J. Morris was one of six starting pitchers named a 2009 Louisville Slugger First Team All-American, Collegiate Baseball announced on Thursday.

The distinction is the first of Morris’ career, while the Humble, Texas, product became the first Wildcat since Craig Wilson in 1992 to earn first team all-American status.

Morris, the 2009 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, is 13-1 this season with a 1.84 ERA to lead K-State to its first regional appearance in school history. The junior, who holds the school record for single-season wins, is tied for fifth in the history of the Big 12 Conference in that department. Morris has amassed 98 strikeouts this season and is just one shy from tying the school record held by former major leaguer Ted Power (1976).

Morris joined Stephen Strasburg (San Diego State), Mike Leake (Arizona State), Louis Coleman (LSU), Deck McGuire (Georgia Tech) and Daniel Bibona (UC Irvine) as the first-team pitchers as the six combined for a 72-6 record and a 2.16 ERA.

Kansas State will participate in its first-ever regional against Xavier on Friday with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Reckling Park.
