MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State junior right-hander A.J. Morris was one of 50 pitchers to be named to the National Pitcher of the Year watch list, the College Baseball Foundation and Mizuno announced on Tuesday.

Morris, who broke the single-season school record for wins last weekend at Texas, was joined on the list by seven other pitchers from the Big 12 Conference.

The Pitcher of the Year will be honored during the College Baseball Awards Show on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas.

“We are excited to have this new award as part of our presentation in July,” said Raymond Richardson, College Baseball Awards Show chair and CBF board member. “To have the chance to specifically recognize the greatest pitching talent in college baseball is an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.”

Morris has been one of the best pitchers in the nation in 2009, holding a 10-0 record and a 1.27 ERA, which leads the nation in both categories.

The Humble, Texas, product has allowed just 11 earned runs on 55 hits in 77.2 innings pitched, while he has struck out 74 as opposed to just 20 walks.

Morris leads the Big 12 in wins, ERA and innings pitched, while he is sixth in strikeouts.

The College Baseball Awards Show will recognize the top players in college baseball as part of the CBF’s annual celebration, which also includes the National College Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
