"It felt really good to sign with Kansas State," said Aubrey Quarles. "It was kind of a birthday present for me. My birthday was the Friday after signing day. I did some celebrating."
"I committed in December about two weeks after my official visit. I loved the conference. It's a great conference. My brother played in the Big 12. I knew all about it."
"I know they have a good team, and they made me feel real comfortable. That was a big thing for me."
Quarles talked about the close relationship formed with offensive coordinator Dave Brock.
"I stayed in most contact with coach Brock throughout the recruiting process," he said. "I think he is a good guy. He calls all the time and checks on me. He makes sure I am doing what I am suppose to be doing."
"When I went up on my visit I met with coach [Ron] Prince. I think he is a cool coach. I remember watching him on a highlight tape. He would do a little walk on the sideline every time they would score."
"He seems like he is real close with his players. He knows my experience as being a junior college transfer. I like him a lot."
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver expects to make a big impact upon arrival in Manhattan. Quarles knows his strengths and what he hopes to improve.
"For me being a junior college transfer I really want to get on the field," he said. "I want to do something for my career. I want to make something happen and win the Big 12 championship. The coaches want me to come in and play right away. They want me to be a contributer."
"I would say my strengths are catching the ball and running good routes. I am not the fastest player, but I feel like my speed is up there. I know what the defense is going to do."
"I am trying to improve my speed. You can always get better at that. I am trying to be the fastest I can be."
Quarles had 27 receptions for 355 yards and eight touchdowns in 2007. He added five kick-off returns for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
He is maintains a 3.0 GPA and plans to enroll at Kansas State during the summer.
