Already holding down ten official scholarship offers with two other teams poised to later tender an offer, make no mistake – the 5-10, 165-pound Garland DB Jarrett Ben
has plenty of options.
Asked who has officially extended an offer his way, Ben told KStateFans.com, "I'm right at ten, right now. Let me see if I can remember all ten. I have offers from Kansas State, Duke, Kansas, Iowa, Iowa State, SMU, North Texas, Rice, UNLV and I think UTEP offered too."
"I am wide open right now but as far as in-state schools that have officially offered I'm pretty much liking, North Texas, Rice and TCU the most," Ben said. "As for the out-of-state schools who offered me a scholarship I'd have to say that I like K-State, Iowa State and Duke the most right now."
A pair of other programs Ben is eying right now are two whom have been in touch quite a bit and seemingly are close to offering him a ship.
"I also like Arkansas and Texas Tech," Ben shared before adding, "But they haven't offered yet. They appear to me to be close to offering but I'm not sure if and when that will happen. If those two were to offer, and I like both of those schools, it's going to make my decision even more difficult."
Thoughts on his Top Three In-State Schools offering him a full-ride...
On the Mean Green: "I've visited there a few times, counting a two-day camp there, and I took a true visit (similar to an official visit) where we discussed the academics, toured the facilities, dormitory, weight room and I met all of the coaches. So I got a good idea of what North Texas offers. It's a very good option for me and it's close to home. I like (Mean Green head man) Todd Dodge and the coach recruiting me Chuck Peterson. I know they lost the last two games but I know they have a good program going and it's only going to get better. I wouldn't mind being a part of rebuilding North Texas into a football power. So it's an intriguing option, and one of my top options."
On the Owls: "I went up to their Spring Game and saw them first-hand. I like the coaches there a lot. Not only are they nice but they're really cool. I really like Coach David Beaty. Another thing I like about Rice is it's in Houston, a big city, and I think that's cool. At the same time, though, I like the fact that the campus is really nice and small, so everything is real close. I like that. Plus, I like the academics there. I can get a great education there -- either Pre-Med or Engineering. Both of those majors are very interesting to me and coming out of Rice with a degree in either of those two would be huge for me.
On the Horned Frogs: "They've really got a great football program. They led Texas 10-0 going into halftime of their game before UT came back to win. They're close to home too. And Coach Sharp is real nice. And I like their head coach, Coach Patterson. They also have one of the most athletic programs in the country, and one of the top defenses, just a real good program."
We also grabbed his thoughts on one of his top out-of-state suitors stepping up to the plate with a scholarship offer, K-State, although he is also digging Iowa State and Duke (along with K-State). Having said all of that, he tentatively has all three marked down for an official visit. Still, we grabbed only his thoughts on arguably the top out-of-state school on his list...
On the Wildcats: "K-State is the first school to offer me a scholarship and I'm going to be going up there soon to watch them play a game. My parents want me to stay close to home. But they've given me the support to make my decision regardless of proximity. I'm looking more at the academics, the state of the football programs, etc., more so than which school is closer to home."
Official Visit Agenda: "I haven't set up any official visits yet but I would say that I'm probably not going to give official visits to the in-state schools since I can drive to those programs, like Rice, North Texas, SMU, TCU, etc. As far as out-of-state schools, however, I think right now the three I am leaning toward officially visiting are K-State, Iowa State and Duke. And, I'm not sure if I'll take all five of my visits, but I'm pretty sure I will take three and those are the three leading today."
Commitment Time-Frame: "I'm thinking I'll probably wait closer to end of my season before I make my decision. That'll give me some time to sort my options and take some official visits."
