Kansas State has come out swinging in 2006 and Ron Prince now has four solid verbal commitments. Lamark Brown, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound, athlete, from Hazelwood West high in St. Louis, Mo., could be the best of the bunch. Brown is an outstanding defender but he wants to run the football for the Wildcats.
“
Lamark Brown
has been a varsity starter for us since his freshman year,” said Hazelwood coach Keith Herring.
“Lamark has played running back, free safety and linebacker. I think he feels at home the most at free safety. When Lamark was a freshman, we put him in at running back right around the third game of the season and once he got used to the contact, he was as tough as they came.”
We asked Coach Herring if he can talk about why Brown committed to
Kansas State
and why he committed so early in the process.
“Lamark has been a fan of Kansas State since he was a kid.” Herring explained. “Kansas State got on him early, the coaching staff did a great job of recruiting him. Coach (Mo) Latimore has done a great job and I think when Lamark visited Kansas State recently,
Ron Prince
sealed the deal.
“Lamark came back from a Kansas State visit and told me that he just felt real comfortable down there in Manhattan and that he wanted to commit.”
What position will Lamark Brown play at Kansas State?
“He wants to play running back,” Herring said. “I think the Kansas State coaches will give him that opportunity but I think it’s a good possibility that he’ll end up on the defensive side of the football.” Brown rushed for 2,100 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior and was named all-state. He also led his team in tackles on the defensive side of the football.
