A&M game huge for North title hopes

The Big 12 North is up for grabs with the leading contenders: Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas State. If K-State is to have a chance however, tomorrow's game with Texas A&M is pivotal. Going into this Saturday's game, the Cats must capitalize on it's opportunities and continue to put up W's in conference play.

Since 2000, the Big 12 North's representative in the Big 12 Championship game has been either Colorado or Kansas State. Three games into the conference season, the Cats are a game back in the conference standings. Coach Bill Snyder and players addressed the importance of Saturday's game against Texas A&M.

"For us to even consider staying in the race, we would have to have a victory in the South division," Snyder said. K-State has had two shots thus far at knocking out a South opponent. The Wildcats lost those two games by a combined score of 41- 102.

Meanwhile, Colorado, the defending Big 12 North champion, is 2-1 in Big 12 play, and has defeated Oklahoma State and Texas A&M from the South.

"This is a great part to our season and the goals that we set," senior fullback and captain Victor Mann said. "We're sitting at a good spot right now, 4-2. There's no panic mode right now. It's just a matter of going out and doing what we have to do to get a win."

Safety Marcus Watts said the team knows the importance the game holds in the standings, and said it would also be key for other purposes. "If we can get a win (against Texas A&M) it will give us some momentum and give us some confidence heading into Big 12 North play.

The Wildcats close their schedule with four consecutive games against North opponents. With the first of those games being against the preseason selection to win the North, Colorado, the Wildcats could certainly use some momentum.

A motto among the Wildcats is "Go 1-0 each week." While it hasn't held true for every game this season, if the Wildcats can follow that model the next few weeks, a Big 12 North title could again be in the Wildcat's possession.
