Joining Murphy as Co-Pitchers of the Week as selected by the league were
Don Czyz of Kansas and Will Savage of Oklahoma.
Murphy led Kansas-State to two wins last week with a 9-for-13 (.692)
showing that included four homers, three doubles, eight RBI, and an
impressive 1.846 slugging percentage. In a midweek win over Washburn,
Murphy was 4-for-6 with two homers, four RBI and five runs. Then
against Oklahoma, he went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored in
an 8-5 win. He then followed that with a 3-for-3 day with three RBI,
three runs and his team-leading 10th homer of the season last Saturday
in an 11-inning loss to the Sooners before not playing in the series
finale due to an injury.
So far this season, Murphy is hitting a team-best .352 with 10 homers,
42 RBI and 18 doubles. Murphy is ninth in the Big 12 in hitting at
.352, ninth in homers with 10, first in doubles with 18 and sixth in
slugging at .636. In Big 12 games only, Murphy is fifth in the
conference in hitting at .367, second in hits with 29, tied for first
in runs scored with 22, third in doubles with nine and fifth in
slugging at .595.
Murphy's honor is the third this season for a Wildcat after Mitchell and
senior Terry Blunt each took the honor previously this season. K-State
returns to action Friday as it hosts Northern Colorado in a
non-conference series. First pitch on Friday is set for 7 p.m.
