Liberal Kansas linebacker Mackenzie Rosel, who Kansas State had penciled in as their No. 1 SAM linebacker, thought about his options for another day and decided that there was just one place he planned to be this summer...
"I called Coach Chris Kosharound 2:00 today and Coach Joe Bob Clements around 5:00 and told them I was committed," Mackenzie Rosel told Scout.com.
"They were excited and congratulated me," Rosel continued. "And they said countless times that I really fit their scheme well."
His reasons for ending the suspense today were in large part due to his weekend official visit to Manhattan.
"Everybody up there was great," said the Midlands Hot 50 #45, "They were unbelievable -- the coaches, the players and the support they have (from Kansas State fans) for the program."
The 6-2, 205-pound LB said he has an uncle who is a professor at Kansas State at Salina and an aunt who is a pharmacist in Manhattan. He also said some of the KSU coaches had prior relationships with a couple of his high school coaches. Throw in couple of players from Liberal already on the Wildcat roster (Brett Allstatt, Carlos Alsup) and there were plenty of connections/reasons the Purple stood out as the place for him.
"My parents are grinning from ear-to-ear," Rosel said. “They’re really excited. Christmas is going to be a lot of purple.”
His message to K-State alumni/fans?
"Go Cats. And, I cannot wait to go up there and surround myself with the people that support that program."
