Colorado DT Looking at the Cats
Colorado DT Looking at the Cats

Already recruiting the state of Colorado with much success this year, The Wildcats are once again in strong contention for yet another of Colorado's best recruits – DT Taj Kaynor. Playing for Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colorado- Taj recently took an unofficial visit to Manhattan in August and came away impressed with Kansas State and the town.
"Yea I took a visit to K-State and everything and I really liked that a lot. The trip went really well and I got to see everything. It was the first time I had been out of state for recruiting purposes and that went really well. I talked with the Coaches and I got along very well with Coach Clements- their DL coach."
In a year where defensive needs are trying to be addressed by the Cat coaching staff, Taj has the speed and the size to play either the Defensive Tackle or Defensive End spot for the Cats. At 6-foot-7 inches and 245 pounds with 4.9 speed, Taj has the frame to put more weight on and continues to grow. His speed off the edge allows him the versatility to play Rush End and with added weight- Taj could move over to Strong-side Defensive end. "I've been in the weight room almost all summer getting stronger and ready for the season" said Kaynor.
As far as recruiting goes, Taj favorite schools right now:" CU, K-State, Kansas and I just started to talk with Texas."
In terms of Kansas State: "The really started recruiting me last year. It really started last year. I was getting constant mail from them and I really did not know that much about K-State at that point or what Manhattan was like. And I thought before I start really considering them hard I would like to see what Manhattan and the town was like so I decided to come down and visit" said Kaynor.
Having visited the campus and spoken with the coaches, the Cats made a favorable impression on this recruit.
"Manhattan is so different then what I am used to and like the pace is just different. But I actually liked that. That was one thing that really caught my eye and I liked. It was real calm and everyone was really nice and cool and I liked it a lot actually. And then, also I think in a slower town like that I can focus more on what is important to me and I just really like that alot."
As far as offering, Taj says that he met with Coach Snyder on his visit to discuss his recruitment.
"I met with Coach Snyder. They have not offered me a scholarship yet but they said they are very interested and they would like to talk more with me more about scholarship when I take my official visit there. They said they want me to come down when other recruits are in town on a official visit and talk about a scholarship then. They basically said they were interested and the visit just went really well."
Although he has not set a date to schedule an official visit, Taj says that the Cats will definitely receive an official visit and that he is looking forward to returning back to Manhattan.
"Yea yea for sure they will get an official visit from me. I have already talked about that a little with them and they for sure will get a visit from me. I know that they offer a lot of times on visits and so I want to go down there and visit for sure."
As for a leader, Taj admits that he is looking very strongly at CU but:" K-State is my leader. I just really like them and everything there just seems so hands on and I really like that. K-State is my leader but it is really close with CU, just because I like CU's Defensive line coach and I spent a lot of time with him this summer and got to know him. Plus CU is closer to home but right now K-State is my favorite for sure."
We will be checking back with Taj as recruiting continues to heat up and bring you the latest on his recruitment.
