Quick Stats: (self-reported)

Irving Macarthur's Eric Childs is a relative newcomer to Wildcat Fans but this Texas recruit has the Cats in his top three schools without ever having visited Manhattan. Look for that to change as Coach Elliot is recruiting this Rush DE for the Wildcats and Eric says he is coming down to check out the Cats July 31st to talk with Coach Elliot and tour the campus.
"Right now, before ever seeing it (Manhattan) I still like them. The football program is real good and they go to Bowl games. They have been to Bowl's for something like 10 years straight and they have a really good coaching staff. I mean there coaches are really good and they know how to win. The team is not really young team right now. They have some older players, lots of seniors you know but they are picking up some good players in recruiting and if I were to go there they have those players to keep going to bowl games and winning."
This recruit may not have the program he wants to attend picked out yet- but he knows the Date he wants to commit.
"September 10th. If not exactly on the 10th very close to the 10th."
Why the tenth many of you are asking? The day of September 10 because that is his mother's birthday and he would like dedicate committing and that day to her.
So what about recruiting? Having already been to Colorado, Colorado State, Tulsa and Oklahoma State already, Eric claims offers from a bevy of schools.
"Yes sir, I have offers from Kansas State, Tulsa, Missouri, Colorado State, Arizona State, Mississippi State, Arkansas State, Baylor, Iowa, Texas Tech."
Given the number of schools that have offered, Eric's top three schools right now, in order:
"My top three schools are Tulsa, Kansas State and Arizona State."
As for what Eric likes about Kansas State
"They are just a really good program and they have been recruiting me for a long time. Kansas State has been recruiting me for a long time and that was important to me."
As for what this recruit is looking for in a school:
"I just want to make sure the education is there and that I feel comfortable. They have to have my degree and the education. I have to feel comfortable with the players and the coaches and then after that I want to look at where they want me to play. Some schools are recruiting me to play Linebacker and I will look at that too. I will look at who all is on the team and who is an upperclassman and where I would fit in with them."
Asked what position the Wildcats are recruiting him at:
"They are recruiting me as a DE. That is important to me as I want to stay at end right off the bat. I guess my best skill is my speed and being able to rush the Quarterback. If they needed me to play something like linebacker I would but I really want to stay at end right now."
Asked if leaving the state would be an issue for Eric
"No sir. It really does not matter to me. I just want to go somewhere where I fit in and can get my education and play for a winning program.
With a 920 on his SAT, Eric is already fully qualified.
We will be checking back with Eric directly following his trip to Manhattan on the 31st and definitely before the 10th of September.
