OU alumni game Saturday

The third annual OU alumni basketball game is noon Saturday and will be free to the public once again.

When Lon Kruger took over as the Oklahoma basketball coach two years ago, one of his points of emphasis was to focus on the Sooners tradition.

Saturday marks the third annual Legends Alumni game at Lloyd Noble Center. Game starts at noon. Doors will open at 11 a.m., and the event is free to the public once again.

"Last year was my first year to do it, and it helps you to hear them talk about how they got through college and their experiences," power forward Ryan Spangler said. "I watched some of them growing up. OU has always been my favorite team. I'm just lucky to get to meet them all."

This year has a theme of honoring all 2,000-point scorers and all-Americans in OU's history.

Some of the honorees scheduled to attend are Blake Griffin, Hollis Price, Alvan Adams, Harvey Grant, Stacey King, Eduardo Najera and family members of the late Lester Lane and Wayman Tisdale.

"Reunion weekend has been great," Kruger said. "To see all those former players come back and share their memories is always fun to watch.

"It means a lot to the team. They get to hear about their experiences. These guys have won championships back in the ‘70s and ‘80s and our guys can hear about how hard they worked for it."

Following the event, autographs will be available. And the tradition will continue with the team photo poster being taken with the players and the fans in the stands.
