'Cats Down Texas Tech With Big 1st Inning

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State jumped out o a big lead early putting up 9 first inning runs en route to beating Texas Tech on Saturday.

In a tight battle ending with a walk off home run in Fridays first game of the series, The Kansas State Wildcats sent a 9 run first inning message, ain't nobody go time for that. Jon Davis got the Cats on board with a grand slam on his first at bat followed by Blair DeBord's RBI bringing the total to 5. But the Cats were not done in the first as Ross Kivett, Shane Conlon and Blair Debord each contributed an RBI to bring the first inning to a close 9-0.

Jason King also added a single shot home run in the fourth; his third of the season, and Mitch Meyer pinch-hit his way to a home run in the seventh.

Ross Kivett was also a shining star today going 4 for 4 and scoring three runs. Not to be outdone Shane Conlon and Jared King also contributed three runs each.

Earning the win on the mound was Matt Wivinis(5-1) giving up only one unearned rune on six hits, no walks and four strikeouts in six innings.

Freshman Hayden Nixon garnered the save, pitching the last three innings. Nixon replaced Landon Busch who was clobbered by a pitch not long after he was inserted in the rotation.

Tech's run in the fifth along with an RBI by Tim Proudfoot in the seventh would be the only runs they earned for the game bringing the final score to a 15-2 rout.
