MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State picked up another commitment on Sunday when Chris Brown of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College.

The big 6-foot-4, 330-pound defensive tackle sat out this season after being a two-year starter for the Fighting Artichokes and says he's ready to play Division 1 football for the Wildcats.

"I had a great time on my visit," said Chris Brown. "I loved the campus. It's definitely a smaller place than where I'm from, but that's one of the reasons I liked it. It seems like a nice place to be for the next two years. All of the coaches and players were very polite. My host was Ryan Mueller, number 44.

"Coach Latimore has been my recruiter. He sees me as an immediate starter at defensive tackle in the 4-3 defense. He's definitely someone I think will be able to help me to hone my skills and get me ready to play at the next level."

Brown gave his verbal pledge to the Wildcat staff on Sunday, January 27th. He chose Kansas State over offers from Arizona State, right in his home state, and Iowa.

"I bought into the idea that Kansas State is going to be a team next season," Brown said on his decision. "With my help, we're hoping to have the best team Kansas State has had in any season before. Coach Snyder and Coach Latimore are good people. I truly believe they care about my growth as an athlete and as a student.

"My goal next season is definitely to make a positive impact. I'm just going to play my style of football which is a hard-working, hard-nosed run-stopper. I'm going to give everything I have to the program. In the process, I think I'll become a better overall player and person."

In high school, Brown played at Skyline High School in Mesa, Ariz. before spending three seasons at Scottsdale under the tutelage of head coach Doug Madoski.

"I took a redshirt year this season to grow in the classroom and grow as a football player. I felt it was a necessity to continue to elevate my game to be able to get to the Division 1 level and make an impact when I arrived. Last season I was an All-American and rated as the number four Junior College prospect by mid-season. With a lot of hard work and determination I feel like I'm ready to take my game to one of the top programs in D1 football."

Brown says he will have a small get-together with friends and family at his home in Mesa on National Signing Day. As a sophomore in 2011, Brown had 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three fumble recoveries in eight games. In his freshman season he recorded 30 tackles, six tackles for loss, and three sacks also in eight games. He'll have two season of eligibility remaining at K-State in two years.
