Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy announced on Thursday afternoon the hiring of a new inside receivers coach in Jason Ray. The former Broken Arrow (Okla.) High School standout went on to play at Missouri where he was a solid contributor to the Missouri offense and played with current New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Chase Daniel.

After working as a development associate for the Tiger Scholarship Fund in the Missouri athletic department he moved into coaching when then Missouri offensive coordinator Dave Christianson took the head coaching position at Wyoming. Ray coached running backs his first three years at Wyoming and then moved over to wide receivers this past season.

“We’re very excited to add Jason Ray to the staff,” Gundy said. “He is an enthusiastic coach who brings a lot of energy to the staff. He has a great offensive mind.”

Ray holds a degree in marketing from Missouri. He was a receiver for the Tigers from 2003 through 2007 and during his time in Columbia he was part of four bowl teams.

Ray was elected a team captain his senior season of 2007 in what was the most successful season in Missouri school history. The Tigers ended the season with a school-record 12 wins and were ranked No. 4 in the final Associated Press rankings, which was the highest season-ending ranking in school history.

He was part of a Missouri offense that ranked No. 5 in the nation in total offense, averaging 490.3 yards per game. The 2007 Tiger offense also ranked No. 8 in the NCAA in scoring offense (39.9 points per game) and No. 9 in passing offense (314.1 yards per game).

He was also an Academic All-Big 12 selection and a member of the Commissioners Honor Roll. Ray was voted president of the Missouri Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a senior.

Ray's younger brother Michael was a strong safety for the Wyoming Cowboys from 2004 to 2008, completing his eligibility just as the elder Ray was hired as an assistant coach for the Pokes. Michael Ray has since returned to the University of Wyoming, and is currently an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

While coaching at Wyoming, Ray recruited the states of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

At Broken Arrow, Ray earned All-State status from The Tulsa World and the Oklahoma Coaches Association as a senior and helped Broken Arrow to the Class 6A state championship game.

Ranked as the No. 28 overall prospect in the Midland region and the nation's No. 33 receiver by SuperPrep Magazine, he racked up 64 catches for 864 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2002. As a junior, he caught 60 balls for 819 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also was a standout as a multi-year letterwinner in both basketball and track.
