SNYDER ‘EXPECTS' KLEIN TO PLAY

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein couldn't finish the Oklahoma State game last week, but is expected to start this week's outing against Texas Christian.

Bill Snyder didn't say, ‘Yes,' and he didn't say, ‘No.'

But what he did say on whether quarterback Collin Klein would play Saturday at TCU was, "I would certainly hope so."

Saying that he understood the media's interest on Klein, he added "My interest in our players is beyond football, and I always want to do the right thing for the young people in our program. I do not want to put any young person in any undo jeopardy whatsoever. That is why I don't address injuries."

Klein came out of last week's Oklahoma State game midway through the third quarter and did not return to action.

Snyder declined to confirm or deny whether Klein had a concussion, but would only say, "It's against the law to talk about someone's health without their approval."

Klein, who normally co-stars with Snyder at Tuesday's weekly press conference was not present with Snyder explaining, "He would have been here. He is perfectly comfortable with coming and visiting, but I did not want to put him through that because I know the bombardment that he would have to endure."

Snyder concluded, "Would I expect him to play? I certainly hope that's the case, and I would expect that to take place."

Klein will be trying to improve his record as a starting quarterback to 21-4 against the Horned Frogs, plus enhance his standing in the drive for the Heisman Trophy.

For the record, here's an update on the Klein report:

• Needs just 42 passing yards to become the sixth player in Big 12 history to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 2,000 yards.

• Had a nation-high of 15 games since 2011 with at least one rushing TD and one passing TD in the same game.

• Has accounted for 66 percent of K-State's total offense this year.

• Has a 71 percent completion rate, which would be a K-State school record, and 174.39 passing efficiency, which leads the nation and would shatter Michael Bishop's school record of 159.95 in 1998.

• In the BCS era, Klein is one of just four players to rush for at least 20 touchdowns and ass for at least 10 scores in the same season. The others are Cam Newton, Tim Tebow and Eric Crouch.

• Klein's 50 career rushing scores ranks second among all active players to Montee Ball (Wisconsin) with 68.

Kansas State plays at TCU on Saturday at 6 p.m.
