MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State staff continues to hit the state of Texas hard with the verbal commitment of WR - LeAndrew Gordon. KStateFans Caught up with LeAndrew to discuss his decision.
LeAndrew Gordon
, who was offered in person by Coach Snyder in the fall of 2010, decided the time was right to commit to the Wildcat program. The 5-foot-7, 160-pound wide receiver/defensive back plays at Pantego Christian Academy in Arlington,
Texas
.
"Ever since they offered I think that’s where I really wanted to be," said LeAndrew of
Kansas State
. "I love the college atmosphere in Manhattan. I like where it’s located. The Midwestern people are very friendly.
"Coach Snyder is someone who I have great respect for both on-and-off the field. And I get a chance to follow in my father’s footsteps. That’s where he played, and it’s been in my heart ever since I was a kid."
Gordon’s father, Joe Gordon, played for the Wildcats from 1993 to 1996 and was an All-American in his junior season. He joined Coach Snyder’s staff in 2009 as Director of Recruiting Operations. It was Michael Smith, however, who Gordon told of his commitment.
"Yes, I committed to Coach Smith over the phone," Gordon said. "I’m very excited. My goal is to come in and help the team get better in any way I can. I’m going to start out at wide receiver, but they really recruited me as an athlete. I like the way [Kansas State] utilizes wide receivers that don’t have the typical size like
Brandon Banks
and gets the most out of their ability."
Gordon was First Team All-District as a junior. The Panthers ended the season at 4-5 missing the TAPPS playoffs, but Gordon thinks next season will be different.
"We have a lot of athletes returning next year, so I think we’ll have a strong team," said Gordon. "My goal is to make the playoffs and make All-State. It goes through my mind every time I walk through the locker room.
"This spring I’m just going to run track and go to combines. There’s a Nike Sparq Combine coming up on March 24th at Cowboys Stadium here in Dallas."
It won’t take long for Gordon to pay a visit to his future campus. He’s planning on being in Manhattan next weekend for Junior Day.
At Pantego Christian Academy, Gordon plays football with his younger brother, Sergio, currently a sophomore. Gordon’s other early offer was from four-time FCS champion, Youngstown State.
