Judah Jones Commits
"Kansas State is a great place," said Judah Jones. "They did an excellent job of showing us how awesome the school is. It's by far the best school I've visited.
"Coach Snyder and I talked one-on-one. He's an amazing coach. I feel privileged to be coached by him. There's no one better to play for. I loved the campus atmosphere and all the hard work that they put into the program. Before I went home on Sunday I gave him my commitment."
Jones attends Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport. He also plays drums the highly successful Christian Gospel band, forever JONES. His parents, DeWitt and Kim Jones, formed the band with their five children. The band was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2011. Both parents accompanied their son on his visit to Manhattan.
"They both loved Bill Snyder," Jones said of his parents impression of the school. "They were happy to see that working getting your education is what the coaches were emphasizing. When I was with Coach Snyder he didn't really say that much about football. He talked about getting a degree while I'm there. He wants his players to be successful in life."
Although Manhattan is smaller than Shreveport, Jones said he felt it was the "perfect" setting for him.
"It reminded me of my hometown of Yakima, Washington," Jones said. "It's a small city, but that doesn't bother me. I'm there to get an education and play football.
"I had two player-hosts who showed me around campus. Tyler Lockett and Morgan Burns are two Christian guys I enjoyed being around. We didn't do anything stupid. Tyler and I went to a movie. After the basketball game Morgan introduced me to some of his buddies. It's great to be future teammates with guys that awesome."
Playing at Evangel Christian Academy, Jones had more than 750 receiving yards with six touchdown as a senior. His stats were slightly down from his All-District year as a junior.
"I had kind of a tougher year this year," Jones said. "I didn't get the ball thrown my way as much as I did as a junior, and we ran the ball a lot more. It's fine though because I don't play for awards. I just enjoy being part of the team. At Kansas State I know I'm capable of much better.
"Coach Smith talked to me about contributing and doing the best I could possibly do. They're not sure yet where they are going to use me, but I'm willing to play any position but maybe the D-line."
Evangel Christian Academy made it all the way to the Louisiana 2A State Semifinal before falling to rival John Curtis Christian.
A two year starter, Jones wore No. 17 for the Eagles. In the spring he plans to run track and possibly play baseball.
After graduation he plans on going on tour with forever JONES to coincide with the release of their new album. He'll hold off his enrollment to Kansas State until next January.
