Defensive Notes and Quotes

MANHATTAN, Kan. - This past Friday, the Kansas State Football team held it's annual Media Days where players spoke to the media on it's brand new AstroTurf Gameday Grass. Here are the defensive players quotes....

Senior Defensive Back David Garrett On where the defense has improved in the offseason…

"With all the new additions it is helping us a lot. We have more depth at certain positions that we can use them at. Everyone is coming along real well, picking up the defense and it is helping us move on to let us learn and do things a lot faster."

On the depth at linebacker…

"We have a lot of speed at the linebacker spot now. It makes things a lot easier on our safeties. I just know that we are improving and getting a lot better against the run. I cannot see much since I am playing at the cornerback position but I can just tell that we are getting better against the run."

Sophomore Linebacker Tre Walker On what sets this group apart from last year…

"The aggressiveness, intensity, and toughness are totally different from the football team last year. I think that we have a lot to prove."

On what the biggest question mark for this team is…

"For this team right now it just how are we going to respond from last year."

Sophomore Defensive Back Ty Zimmerman On how the expectations are different this year as a sophomore…

"We have a lot of guys returning from last year, new guys moved in, and I think we could be real good if we could take care of some things. We have a lot more competition at each position which provided for practicing better and getting after it. It has been a good summer."

On his thoughts about last season…

"Well the first couple of games I was swimming in front of 50,000 fans. As the season went on I got a lot more comfortable. I got help from Tysyn and Emmanuel and guys like that who have played before. So this year I am ready to go and feel a lot more comfortable."

On playing for K-State…

"I grew up watching these guys and Coach Snyder was here. I had a lot of support from Junction City and all the K-State fans over there. It has been fun so far. I am so close to home so I get to see people a lot. They all come to games and it has just been fun."

Junior Linebacker Arthur Brown On improvements to make after last year…

"Really just expressing passion and a love for the game. I feel like gathering common goals and values will carry over."

On being a leader on defense…

"I often ask myself the question how can I be a leader. I think it is stepping up without stepping out of character. I definitely want to express my role as a leader."

Senior Defensive End Jordan Voelker On his performance this year compared to last year…

"I feel a lot more comfortable with the position which will in turn lead to more playing time. I didn't get on the field very much last year and I hope to change that a little bit."

On the depth of the defensive line…

"We've got a lot of good guys into the rotation which should help a lot."

Senior Linebacker Alex Hrebec On his role as a leader…

"I think you have to ask my teammates that. I definitely try to express myself both on the field and off the field as well in terms of the things I do and things I say. I guess you have to ask them to get a better answer."

On practice so far…

"It has gone well, definitely we have got a lot to improve upon. But we're doing some things I like hustling and flying around and still having a lot of fun. We have room for improvement and opportunities to get better."

On what the defense needs to improve on…

"From last year tackling and getting off the block. With every defense you're never going to graduate from those things."
